Butte, Montana

Butte is approximately 64 miles southwest of Helena and has a population of approximately 35,000, including those living in the surrounding Silver Bow County. Butte has a wonderful town history due to the huge amounts of copper, gold and silver that were mined here. In fact, the town was such a booming metropolis in its early days, much of that mining flavor is still prevalent, as is the pride of the people who live here. Butte has often been referred to as 'the richest hill on earth," and you'll see that it's not only rich in material wealth, but in history as well. Today Butte is a city in transition toward a more diversified economy, including energy research, medicine, tourism, and environmental cleanup and in the future, manufacturing of computer parts.
